Life without TV

There was a time when TV was very important in my life.

I'd come home, turn it on, do my chores while TV sounds filled the room, and then I'd sit down when "my show" came on, and most of the time didn't get up again until I needed more food or it was bedtime.

When analog TV went digital several years ago (and we refused to upgrade), my addiction stopped cold turkey.

And my life turned for the better.

Now I've got all the time in the world to do the things TV kept me from doing.

And people ask me, "How can you survive without TV?"

My response is, "How do you survive WITH it?"

Live a better life.

Turn off the set.

Crumbled Dreams

We all could use a fresh start.

At least that's what I was thinking when I decided to re-invent myself as a singer/songwriter.

We all need a second chance.

At least that's how I felt when I picked at my guitar, trying to hear a tune that would compliment the poem I had just written.

We all want approval.

At least that's what I imagined hearing -- thunderous approval from a loving crowd.

We all have dreams.

At least that's what I hoped, because a person without dreams and aspirations is a person who just settles.

We all have setbacks.

At least that's how I consoled myself after hearing The Civil Wars in concert and realized my voice and songs would never sound as unique or captivating as their's.

We all make choices.

So, I made a choice to put away my paper, pen, and guitar and go outside to mow the lawn.

We all have our own grass to cut.
